Development of Smart Sensors for Health Monitoring in Urban Air Quality

As previous week, i have done several thesis to insert into my Literature Review. I have show to my supervisor about my research which is he agree with the thesis that i get. So, by this week , i have found another thesis that is related to my project.

The thesis that i get are :-
 1) Field calibration of a cluster of low-cost available sensors for air quality monitoring. Part A: Ozone and nitrogen dioxide. This thesis is about several commercial sensors were tested using the same data treatment and evaluation and sensor responses were modelled without external temperature and humidity corrections.

2) The rise of low-cost sensing for managing air pollution in cities. This thesis is about low-cost micro-scale sensing allows capturing real-time high-grained pollution data and fundamental drivers behind the rise of low-cost sensing and challenges are discussed.

3) The next generation of low-cost personal air quality sensors for quantitative exposure monitoring. This article is about  development of low-cost, wearable, air quality monitors (M-Pods) using the Arduino platform. These M-Pods house two types of sensors – commercially available metal oxide semiconductor (MOx) sensors used to measure CO, O3, NO2, and total VOCs, and NDIR sensors used to measure CO2.

On this week, i have focusing on to find another Literature Review, i have found several thesis that related to my project which is:-

1)  The use of electrochemical sensors for monitoring urban air quality in low cost area.
This thesis is write for suitably configured electrochemical sensors can be used for air quality studies.

2) Disposable screen printed electrochemical sensors: Tools for wnvironmwntal monitoring. This thesis is consist of screen printed electrode; fabrication methods; sensors; electrochemical detection; environmental investigation.

3) An environmental air pollution monitoring system based on the IEEE 1451 standard for low cost requirements which is written by

4) Towards innovations of gas sensor technology which written by Noboru Yamazoe.

5) The rise of low-cost sensing for managing air pollution in cities. This thesis is about Impacts on the health of city dwellers due to high air pollution exposure are unknown, conventional sparse monitoring stations are unable to identify pollution hotspots and low-cost micro-scale sensing allows capturing real-time high-grained pollution data.

As previous week, i have some meeting with my supervisor regarding on Chapter 2. Last week, it was a mid sem break so this week is about a meeting with a Dr.Imran once again with all the students that taking FYP1, This meeting was held in TTL1 with the all the coordinator that involve in FYP1,

Summary of the meeting :
1) In this meeting, Dr.Imran has spoke about Literature Review and Methodology.

2) Literature Review :

  • It has to be at least 10 articles that related to the project that you want to do.
  • The thesis should be determines what is knownabout a subject, concept or problem.
  • Determines gaps, consistencies & inconsistencies about the product.
  • The purpose of Literature Review is to show that you haveread the work of other researchers in my particular area of product.
3) Methodology:

  • Methodology is divide into 2 which is Qualitative Research and Quantitave Research
  • Qualitative Research : Investigate the why and how of decision making, not just what, where, when.
  • Quantitative Research : To develop and employ mathematical models, theories and hypothesis pertaining to phenomena.
  • Methodology is focusing in Background Knowledge , Sample Preparation, and lastly Data Collection method which is consist of block diagram and flow chart.

On this week 7,me and my supervisor are focusing on to Chapter 2 which is Literature Review. My supervisor advice me to find some thesis on internet or book that related to the product.

Summary of week 7
1) My supervisor ask me to do some research on Google Scholar which can help to find an article or thesis from other researchers.
2) My supervisor also ask me to do a gantt chart of my project and also a sketch or diagram of my product.
3) Also exchange the idea with my supervisor to upgrade my project.
4) At least have 10 thesis that related to my product when doing Literature Review.
